Very good cuisine and excellent service both by phone and on site. Thank you very much for my Christmas dinner this year. And yes, I was full 😅. Hopefully the nice lady will know. 😀

We had ordered food to be picked up on December 6th, 2020: 2 x duck with dumplings, once pikeperch and once gratinated steak. with various side dishes and vegetables. We were absolutely thrilled. At the agreed pick-up time, the food came freshly prepared from the kitchen, perfectly packaged, easy to transport and everything was still really hot at home. We give all 3 dishes the grade "very good". The portions were large and everything was easy to put from the transport boxes onto the plates. A very cozy restaurant with a nice beer garden for the summer. Those who like Austrian cuisine will definitely find something delicious in this restaurant. The menu offers a lot, but is still not too big. The selection of drinks in particular is very large and includes homemade drinks that you can only get here (including Austrian specialties). We were served very friendly by a competent employee who was also able to answer all our questions about food and drinks. The drinks and food came very quickly and were very tasty and plentiful. We paid around € 70 for two for 3 courses each (starter, main course and dessert) including drinks and that is a very good price for the quality and size of the food. It will definitely not be our last visit. Gladly again!

Very friendly staff, both when making reservations by phone and when we visited the restaurant. Very tasty game goulash with rich side dishes. Very good hygiene concept and large spaces between the tables.

Service very nice, kitchen unfortunately overwhelmed. Waited 2 hours for food, but it was plentiful in very tasty. We'll be back and hope the kitchen will be faster and more structured. Boss you have to act.

Very nice service. Beer and food tasted good. The cheesecake was warmed up before serving, was nice and warm on the outside but unfortunately still cold on the inside. Prices are ok.

If the food was half as good as the waitress, it would be a great restaurant. It's a shame to know that my English husband can taste a better schnitzel than a qualified cook. There were no spices on it.

We were in Potsdam with the family on the weekend and happened to be in the old city watchman. It was a fantastic evening because the service was excellent and very attentive and the quality of the food and the age of the menu were excellent. It was so cozy and nice in this restaurant that we went straight back the next evening. A special thank you goes to the fabulous, quick-witted Annett for her incomparable, really very attentive, funny and personable manner. And also thanks to Danny, who made it possible for us to have another spontaneously on a fully booked Saturday evening with 9 people Table. If we didn't live so far away, you would have new regular guests :-) really, absolutely recommendable !!!!!

Delicious food and delicious drinks. Everything was just right, the service was very friendly. Had Kaiserschmarrn and apple strudel, which both tasted really delicious. Gösser beer tasted delicious too. All in all great 👍👍👍

We were there yesterday. Very friendly, competent service. Very tasty cuisine. They quickly know what they are doing and what they are doing. Price performance is also great.

The service is always friendly, the food tastes good and the old former customs building speaks for itself. We always like to go here. Unfortunately, the toilet is wheelchair accessible not possible. Monument protection. But there are opportunities nearby, Luisenplatz etc.

There are so many types of beer that you want to be able to taste like this. The taste of the food is outstanding and the taste of the beer that supports it is awesome. It is a restaurant that has a tip even for beer.

Great service and good atmosphere. Food is easy and delicious, kind of Austrian style. Today it was hot and they served some hand made lemonade, great! Good beer and also nice deserts. It's in the middle of the city center next to Brandenburger Tor (gate) and also has a nice beer garden. It's no hipster but a great place.

Very nice beer garden on the edge of the historic city center of Potsdam. Beer garden typical sitting here under beautiful old deciduous trees and can taste different beers, u.a. from Austria. The kitchen is home-style and down to earth. At lunch time, inexpensive, daily changing lunch menus are offered. But inside you can sit well and comfortably. The staff is friendly and quick.

We have tried the restaurant after a long day trip in Potsdam. They had some asparagus specials, so we have tried them: the soup was OK, but the schnitzel with asparagus was exceptionally good. The service unfortunately depends on where do you sit: we were lucky with a cca. 50 yrs old gentleman, he was very nice and polite, but there are waiters who are not so much (as we have seen it). Altogether the place is definitely recommended on my list.

A really cozy and lovely place to have a good German meal. Especially with children. They got a sweet play area with plenty of toys to play with while mama and papa can enjoy a drink after lunch or dinner. 👍🏻

Ok food. But when you are paying they give you not Money back, Because they say you shoud pay at minium 6% extra. They are taking the plate Away quickly after you are finish, so at last one person sitting and eating, and all plattes are taking Away.

German food, cosy place with good service. Some AirBnB apartments upstairs based on people coming and going to get keys.

Stopped here for a lunch while on a biking tour. This restaurant is just across the yard from Brandenburg Gate and it's quite near the city centre. Had the mix grill plate which was not bad. The weather was good on the day so decided to sit outside the garden and enjoy a good meal with good company. Plenty of beer choices too.

Not so bad food with weird personnel.

Even though we were in Potsdam only a week (in July 2014), we had dinner twice at Alter Stadtwächter because it was such a fine experience. (Our son, who had been studying in Potsdam the previous month, had also dined there, and made sure that we tried it.) On the first occasion we ate inside; the second time outside. Both times the service was friendly and speedy, the food was delicious, and the setting was pleasant. Who knows when or if we'll ever return to beautiful Potsdam, but if so we'll be sure to stop in again at Alter Stadtwächter.

My favourite restaurant in Potsdam was the Alter Stadtwaechter. I have visited this restaurant more than 10 times in the last three years. Perhaps one of the best fish meals I have had was the Zanderfilet last summer. Today was one of the worst dining experiences I have had in Germany. To start- drinks were confused with an extra drink that had not been ordered , and carbonated water was provided when still water was requested. When we were seated, the waitress had kindly told us that the order would be slow because the restaurant would be busy. Only after we had asked, 45 minutes after the order had been placed, the waitress told us that the ticket was lost and computer system had crashed. We reordered the same items again, Zanderfilet. The order was placed both in name and by the menu number. The waitress returned 20 minutes later with turkey strips. When I confronted the waitress she was utterly convinced that turkey strip had been ordered. It was clear that she could not have a reasonable discussion. I told her that I would pay for the items we received but would not leave a tip. To be fair the meal received was 2 stars but the whole experience was terrible. Overpriced, poor service and substandard food. I would rate this as zero stars but unfortunately the minimum is one. I will not visit this regular haunt and would advise against others from doing so.
